Libbie Hough: Client Strategist and Business Development Leader

In operating Comma, Libbie blends her passion for service to others with exemplary business practices. She surrounds herself with top-notch marketing, design, and communication professionals to meet her clients’ marketing goals. Over her 25+ year career in communications, Libbie has worked with industries from health care and higher education to construction and tourism.

Libbie graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a BA and, three years later, a Masters in Social Work. Life as a social worker included overseeing crisis intervention and suicide prevention programs, recruiting and managing paid and volunteer staff, conducting skills-based trainings, and preparing resource materials.

Seizing an opportunity to use her communication skills in new ways, Libbie moved into the world of public relations, fundraising, and copywriting. She worked as director of public relations for a small local business, and then joined the marketing/development office at the Ackland Art Museum at UNC-Chapel Hill. She later served as communications leader with Op5 Creative, an Atlanta-based marketing company.

Committed to corporate social responsibility, Comma is a certified vendor with Green Plus, an education and certification program of the Institute for Sustainable Development in Durham, NC. In 2011, Comma received the program’s North American Sustainable Enterprise Sole Proprietor of the Year Award. Later that year, the company was awarded HUB (Historically Underutilized Business) status by the state of North Carolina.

Libbie chairs the Hillsborough/Orange County Chamber of Commerce Education Committee, is a volunteer with the American Heart Association as well as with the Fourth Sector Cluster Initiative. For fun, Libbie likes to read, watch espionage movies, and garden.
